Hospital admissions caused by booze are rocketing – costing the NHS billions | The Sun |Woman|Health|Health: "More than a million Brits a year end up on wards due to alcohol abuse, leaving a £2.7billion bill.<br /> <br /> The number of admissions has doubled since 2002, and Alcohol Concern fears it will reach 1.5 million by 2015 - at an annual cost of £3.7billion - unless action is taken.<br /> <br /> Alcohol Concern chief Don Shenker said: 'Teenage binge drinking is playing a part in this, with increasing numbers of young people - especially girls - ending up in hospital on a Friday or Saturday night.<br /> <br /> 'And the figures do not include people who are taken to A&E, patched up and sent home.'<br /> <br /> An Alcohol Concern report today calls on the Government to hire 'alcohol health workers' to help problem drinkers.<br /> <br /> The group wants the staff in every A&E unit, hospital and GP surgery.
